Write Life Saturday: NestPitch writing contest

Image

Presenting the awesome pitch contest coming your way, NestPitch! And I’m a judge, which will be AWESOME. If you don’t know already, pitch contests are ways for writers to get their WIPs in front of agents or small presses without going through the traditional query process. Or writers might choose to do a mixture of both. They pop up on Twitter a great deal now, and this is just one of the great contests this year.

Here’s a bit about it:

The pitch will consist of a 35-word pitch, an answer to a question and the first 300*-words of your manuscript.

*Picture Books will only be submitting the first 100-words

On April 1st the pitch submission window will be open to all groups, PB, MG, YA, NA & Adult and all genres except Erotica.

24-yours later, our Slush Bilbies will start combing through the submissions, picking the top 100-120.

But we don’t want to miss anyone, so I and the Nest Bloggers (explained below) will also be searching the pitches to make sure no GEMS have been missed.

There will nine blogger *nest sites* and on each nest site, each Blogger (CalledNest Bloggers) will pick their top eight best pitches.  THAT’S 72 SUBMISSIONS FOLKS, so everyone has a really good chance to have their work put before an agent.

Once up, the Secret Bunny Agents will place their chocolate treats in the#NestPitch(s) they like the most. Remember, the best nest gets the biggest and best eggs! So make your #NestPitch as perfect as possible.

You can read the full rules here.

Pitch contests are great. Last year I participated in the Like a Virgin Contest, where I was a finalist and got a full agent request out of the deal. I’m still querying that MS, even though I should PROBABLY be spending more time on it. That contest involved cherries.

xD That is the cutest gif I’ve seen in a while. I just spent a whole minute watching it over and over. 😛 Also, back to the point, this is awesome! You must be excited to be a judge. 🙂 I was looking at the question and it occurred to me that my character wouldn’t know what an Easter egg is. 😛
Do you know if the Bilbies be offering advice to the writers they choose?

    • KITTENS ARE THE BEST THINGS IN THE UNIVERSE.
I’m really excited about this contest, yeah! And I’m sure some of my characters wouldn’t know what Easter eggs are, either 😛 poor things. And I’m not sure if we’ll be offering advice, but I know that the NestPitch blog will have advice posts leading up to the opening date 🙂
