Stacking the Shelves and Weekly Updates

What happened this week, you ask?

– I read some books, as usual

– I participated in a drama festival, which was a lot of fun (except for the sound tech people messing up the start)

– I realised how many assignments are due in the next two weeks and decided to drop out, effective immediately.

…okay, maybe not.

– I also acquired some lovely new books.

FOR REVIEW

The Rapunzel Dilemma by Jennifer Kloester – Thanks Penguin!!!

FROM THE LIBRARY

Are You Seeing Me? by Darren Groth. Based on Cait’s awesome review over at Notebook Sisters, I decided this was a book I needed in my life. And it was just STARING at me from the new book stand at my school library. I had to borrow it.

The Cinderella Moment by Jennifer Kloester. I’m still not sure whether this comes before The Rapunzel Dilemma or is just with different characters, but either way I wanted to read it! In fact, this will be the 100th book I read this year. And it is EXCELLENT so far.

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas. Because my friend (IRL friend, everyone…yep, I have excellent reading buddies in real lifes) told me it was way better than Throne of Glass (we both weren’t ridiculously impressed by it). So I have high hopes!

Everybody Sees the Ants by A S King. Got this because I heard about it somewhere. Although I have no idea what it’s about. Maybe I’ll make up a blurb for it.

Hate List by Jennifer Brown. Because I read Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult, also about a school shooting, and loved it. Although nobody told me that it was A BIG BOOK.

FROM MY SISTER

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. Sophie informed me that she wouldn’t co-write a review of Dorothy Must Die unless I read this first. *bows* Yes, master.

ALSO, how pretty do these two look side by side?

Books Read Since Last Week

butter half bad wildlife

Butter by Erin Lange was really interesting, although very unbelievable in some aspects. It was a 3-star read and I might end up reviewing it eventually.

Half Bad by Salle Green was FREAKIN AWESOME and I loved how much it made me think about good vs. evil. When’s the next one coming out again?

Wildlife by Fiona Wood was…well, after so many people had recommended it on the Twitters, it fell short of my expectations. But that’s not the book’s fault – a lot of people have loved it. Will review this one 🙂

  1. YOU LIKED HALF BAD SO YAAAAYAYYYYY!! OMG YES YOU SHOULD ALSO WATCH SUPERNATURAL AND…okay, I’ll stop yelling. I just…I get excited! Your posts are too full of awesome! (Oh and I rated Butter 3-stars as well, so *hi fives* for the same reviews. xD lol) I want to read Wildlife too…I read like half and I liked it, it just had to go back to the library and I ended up never getting around to getting it back out. And now I’ll need to start from the beginning soooo…just haven’t gotten around to it. I HOPE YOU LIKE ARE YOU SEEING ME. x) *whispers* Now don’t tell anyone this, but come monday…I’m having a giveaway for it, too.) Good luck with exams and things. They sound fun. HA HA HA. not.

    • YAYYYYYY. Actually, I was worried I wouldn’t like it, but it definitely lived up to my expectations :D:D Yay, we thought the same about Butter! And Dead Ends, actually – loved that. I don’t really get around to re-reading books I’ve half-read, either. I mean, I always SAY I do, so my good intentions count, right? Ooooh, I hope I like it too! MEESE. *whispers* That’s so cool! My lips are sealed 😛

  2. What!? You haven’t watched Supernatural? Watchitwatchitwatchitwatchit. That’s all I have to say.

Kidding! I loved The Hate List. Jennifer Brown is one of my favourite authors! If you like realistic fiction, then I’m pretty confident you’ll like this one. It’s probably my favourite book by her, but I also liked Torn Away and Thousand Words.

Do you recommend Dorothy Must Die? I’m considering buying it but there’s another book I’m tossing up whether to get instead (Prisoner of Night and Fog). I dunno, maybe I’ll end up getting both.

    • I KNOW, I really need to, but I just haven’t got around to it – no time!

Oooh, I’m glad you liked Hate List. It looks really good and I can’t wait to start reading it 🙂 As for Dorothy Must Die, yes, I really enjoyed it. I’ll be co-reviewing it with my sister…eventually. I guess it depends on what you’d enjoy more, a retelling or historical fiction. Also, Dorothy Must Die is quite dark in places.

  3. I can’t wait to read Are You Seeing Me? and Half Bad. And the cover of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is awesome!!

Also, blergh, loads of assignments. Assignments suck anyway (unless they involve lots of reading and writing :D), but lots and lots of them make me grumpy. xD

  4. I’m really excited to see your thoughts on the Unbecoming of Mara Dyer- it hooked me and I’m really anxious to finish the series! It seems to be one of those books that you either love or hate!

  5. I’m currently reading The Cinderella moment as well! I’m not too sure how I feel about it just yet but I am really excited to read next book. I got it this week as well. 😀 I really need to read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer! All my friends have been bugging me about it for so so long. I hope you enjoy all your new books!

  6. Oh, that Supernatural gif. ❤ Great stack of books; I'm especially interested to see what you think of Mara Dyer and Crown of Midnight. I wasn't crazy about the first Mara Dyer book like everyone seemed to be, but I hope you enjoy it! And of course, Crown of Midnight was amazing, but I love love love love loved Throne of Glass, too. xD And whaaaaat??? YOU'VE NEVER WATCHED SUPERNATURAL???? You are missing out on the awesomeness that is Sam and Dean. (And Cas, but he's not in it until season four.) 🙂

  7. Are you seeing me is so amazing, I really hope you love it, I happily recommend it to anyone that will listen to me.
I requested The Rapunzel Dilemma from netgalley so hopefully I’ll get approved. And I just recently bought Crown Of Midnight and can’t wait to read it, I loved Throne Of Glass.
    Great post, thanks for sharing.

  8. I got the Rapunzel Dilemma as well! I’m pretty sure that’s it’s a companion story to The Cinderella Moment…. I’m thinking maybe along the lines of how Katie McGarry’s books are, or maybe they are completely different characters etc but with just the same theme? Not sure….. OHH I LOVED Crown of Midnight! ❤ Chaol ❤ I really hope you love it, and bring the rest of the series up for you, it really is amazing 🙂

  9. Bahaha! It’s the start of hell week in school (exam week) and my brain is on information overload right now! x_x

I feel the same way about Crown of Midnight! I didn’t love book one, but Faye’s convinced me to continue the series. 🙂 Your sister sounds awesome, haha! I wish my brother would read with me.

I need to check out both Half Bad and Wildlife!

    Happy reading, Emily! ^_^

  10. I also want to read Are You Seeing Me? based on Cait’s review. It definitely shows the power of book reviews to encourage someone to read a book. I also want to read Dorothy Must Die because I am obsessed with fairytale retellings. Also, this is really random, but you mentioned your school library so it just triggered the following thought. Last night I was thinking how excited I am to go to high school, and one of the primary reasons is because of the huge library that my high school has. There are so many good books in there! If summer wasn’t so nice, I would want school to start right now so I could peruse the huge library.
