The contemporary YA Books I’m looking forward to in 2015

And yes, I’ve only just made myself a banner. Deal with it.

Soooo a lot of awesome contemporaries are coming out next year.

And I chose myself TWELVE of these (there are many more, believe me) that I really want to read. If you want to see a better list, you can check out my 2015-release shelf on Goodreads.

But anyway, let’s begin!

Made You Up by Francesca Zappia

What’s it about?

It’s about Alex, who can’t tell the different between reality and illusion. She’s schizophrenic and an unreliable narrator, basically, and trying to get to college. It sounds absolutely amazing, and something really different.

Plus, bonus points for a beautiful cover.

 

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

What’s it about?

I’ve talked about this one enough on the blog – you should know by now! But in case you missed it, it’s about Violet and Theodore, both of whom (I think?) intend to commit suicide but…don’t. And it’s their story. Early reviews have made me SO excited for this heart-breaking book.

Alice in Wonderland High by Rachel Shane

What’s it about?

Um, contemporary version of Alice in Wonderland? YES PLEASE! It’s about a secret society in a high school, and pranks, and did I mention Alice in Wonderland????

Things We Know By Heart by Jessi Kirby

What’s it about?

A girl tracking down the recipient of her boyfriend’s donated heart.

LIKE. HOW COOL DOES THAT SOUND? And sad.

Geez, all these contemporaries are sad so far. BUT ANYWAY, Jessi Kirby also wrote Golden, which I loved, so I can’t wait for this.

 

The Fill-in Boyfriend by Kasie West

What’s it about?

So a girl gets this cute guy to be her pretend boyfriend – NOTHING could POSSIBLY go wrong with that. It sounds like a funny rom-com and Kasie West never fails to impress me.

Rhiannon by David Levithan

This is a companion to Every Day (which you should read if you haven’t already because it’s incredible). Not sure how I feel about that, but I still really want to read it!

I Was Here by Gayle Forman

What’s it about?

So Cody’s friend commits suicide, and I guess this is Cody’s story about how she deals with that, and what she finds out about Meg. The blurb says it’s about family and loss and moving forward, and hey, I’m perfectly fine with giving my tear ducts a good workout.

Plus, suicide is such a huge issue in the lives of many teenagers (too many, for sure) so I think if it’s handled right, it can have a really huge impact.

This is Where the World Ends by Amy Zhang

BECAUSE AMY ZHANG. If you didn’t know, she wrote Falling Into Place, which is ah-may-zing. NO idea what it’s about but it’s Amy Zhang so I don’t even care.

My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga

What’s it about?

Aysel is plotting her own death, and she makes a suicide pact with a guy called Roman (whom she meets online). She isn’t so sure she should do it, but he might be harder to convince.

Also it contains physics so I might get an education at the same time.

 

The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand

What’s it about?

Okay, I promise I’m NOT fixated on stories about suicide, or containing suicide, but…it’s in this one too. The MC’s brother has killed himself and basically she’s trying to put her life back together.

 

 

The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick

What’s it about?

Okay, so this is a companion to My Life Next Door, featuring the awesome character Tim. REMEMBER TIM? He was the funniest guy ever. So I can’t wait to see what’s in store for him!

So those are just some of the contemporaries I’m looking forward to in 2015.

There are lots more, believe me. But I figured I’d better keep it short. Honourable mentions go to Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen and Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella (one of the only adult authors I read, writing for young adult! Woo!).
