About

Hi! I’m Emily Mead, your host for this evening.

Or morning. Or evening. I don’t discriminate against time zones (though seriously, rest of the world, catch up already).

I’m a teen writer and reader. I’m 17. I like using brackets, talking, acting, freaking out about awesome books and watching Harry Potter more than I should. Props to my sister for indulging these habits.

I’m also a blogger at Aussie Owned and Read.  I welcome anyone and everyone who visits this blog. Hi!

Some facts about me:

1) I can do an Irish accent. Which is pretty cool.

2) I write YA novels occasionally, and my dream is to be a published author.

3) I’m left-handed.

4) My favourite colour is yellow.

5) I like my cats more than people.

    • I’m glad you like my blog – I’m new at blogging too! I will DEFINITELY go check out your blog 😀 Do you have a Twitter as well? If you do, you can find me as @theloonytuney

  1. I read nearly every post you wrote when I should have been studying for my externals.
I think it’s because: I love cats, Harry Potter, I am simply OBSESSED with John Green, and writing is my deepest passion.
Difference is, I awkwardly love Maths.
I love reading your perspective of things and honestly your writing about teen writers just gives me a heads up.
I just started blogging a couple of days ago or something and I regret not being here earlier!
Keep up the great work, Em ! ;D

    • Nothing like procrastination! It sounds like we’re a great match.
I awkwardly hate maths. Even though the main character in my novel is a science/maths geek! Useful for me.
I’m glad you like my blog – I’ll make sure to check yours out 🙂

  3. Hi, I am an author of 4 books including a series of YA ghost stories. I’ve just started a new blog targeted at teens (tho I’m thinking you’re doing a much better job then I ever could). Your blurb sounds great! I’m so impressed. If you’d ever like to guest blog at my site I’d love to host you! Also I do giveaways for my books if you’re interested. Keep up the good work!

    • I’d love to guest blog. Maybe we could do a post swap or something? Not sure what you’d like me to write about, but I can find something. Which blurb did you like, by the way? Was it Hoping for Rain or Mutual Weirdness?

  4. Hi!
I literally made a blog an hour ago, and I’ve just been looking at some fellow teen bloggers. I love to write and read as well, and I really love your blog! Also John Green, Harry Potter and cats are simply sublime.

  5. Hey, I love your title “Mutual Weirdness!” It’s exactly how I’d describe the relationship I have with my best friends :). And I awkwardly hate Maths too. Too bad it’s compulsory at GCSE!

  6. Hey there! How’s your summer going? I’ve nominated you for the Inner Peace and Sunshine awards–details for the hop are on my blog 🙂

  7. Hey, thanks for stopping by FetchingFigment.

It’s great to see so many young, talented writers. If you’d ever like to write a guest post for FF, let me know.

    P.S. Cute blog design

  9. Hey I sent you an email for a chance to get involved with other writers in an awesome new vlog series! Check it out!

  10. Your blog is simply adorable!! The change in the color of the water, the fishing line drop, moving grass at the bottom of the ocean. I am super impressed.

And you have great posts. I am adding you to my list of blogs I check every day, which is like the newspaper for me. What’s current in our world!

  11. Hi there! I just wanted to quickly drop a line and say how much I am enamoured with your blog. I created a wordpress only about six hours ago, so I still haven’t fully grasped all the ropes of it yet, but even from trawling (haha, trawling, fish background… yeah, I’m not funny) around for a short while I realised how many teen writers there are. I had no idea there were so many! I’ve never encountered anyone else my age who actively writes recreationally, so for making me feel like I’m not a complete insane, thank-you!

    • There are SO many teen writers out there, you’ve just got to know where to look! For example, Twitter. Twitter is a great place for us 🙂 TRAWLING. I love a good pun. You’re definitely in the right place. It’s good to have such a great community of teen writers 🙂 thanks for stopping by!

  12. Hi Emily! I found your blog from Sam on Young Writer’s Café. I decided to check it out…seems cool. I also have blog, called Free As a Girl With Wings (www.freeasagirlwithwings.wordpress.com). Love the wonderkitties, btw! My blog has my novel on it. Please check it out!!! I’m a bit [or a lot] younger than you, but I love kitties and Harry Potter!
    Hugs, hugs, hugs,
    Chloe
PS Love your blog background. ❤

  14. Hi, I love your blog. I’m a new teen blogger- I just finally convinced my Mom to let me get WP. I’m almost thirteen, too. In three days.- and I’d LOVE some blogging tips! I write original stories and FanFiction on FanFiction.Net and FictionPress.com, for many months, and I LOVE HARRY POTTER!!! PJO comes first, though.

  15. Hi there, Emily!
I just discovered your blog earlier today, and I must say I really like it!
If it’s not too much trouble, would you care to check out my blog: foureyeddancer.com?
By the way, you write excellent reviews.
Maybe we could swap buttons? Just a thought… of course it’s all up to you.
Just know that no one reads my blog… like I get maybe one comment a year…. if I’m lucky XD
But seriously yeah… I’d greatly appreciate it if you maybe took a look at it but I understand if you’re busy or something or you just rather not… so yeah…
Have a fantastic [enter time of day here]!
    -Jasmin
