Blurbs I Made Up From Reading Book Titles

Have you ever read a book title and wondered what it could POSSIBLY be about?

(that’s me assuming your answer is yes, because otherwise I’m just going to be talking to myself)

So for your reading pleasure, I’ve picked some interesting YA titles and written blurbs simply based on those titles. It’s going to be very interesting.

Butter by Erin Lange

The world is endbuttering. Earth has been taking over by a monster who guzzles food left, right and centre – and not just food. He will eat anything: people, goldfish, radios, USB sticks, lamps…nothing can sate the hunger of Ravenous.

There’s only one food that will calm Ravenous. Following the extinction of dairy cows, though, it’s not so easy to come by, and Michael Margarine must find a way to obtain the only item that can save their world…

A stick of butter.

Startled by His Furry Shorts by Louise Rennison

startled by his furry shorts

The Legend of the Furry Shorts is one all children have heard in the land of Woolly. Like the eyes of a Basilisk, one sighting of the Furry Shorts can kill a person. So when Theodora Fleece meets the owner of the Furry Shorts and doesn’t die, she is persecuted as a witch. But his Furry Shorts are only one aspect of him. He has a name. It’s Fuzz.

And Theodora thinks she might just be in love with him.

Can she overcome the prejudice of her people in order to show the the Furry Shorts race is harmful? And maybe even something more?

Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira

love letters to the dead

Ava is a Messenger between the world of the living and the Underworld. She is contracted by those with magic in their blood to deliver love letters to those who have died. It’s a position in high demand, and the love letters are getting even more frequent: to wives, husbands, but also grannies and grandpas, sisters, brothers and parents.

Then one of Ava’s dearest friends dies, leaving far too much unsaid. But Messengers can’t communicate with anyone they’ve had contact with before the victim’s death.

But Ava will find a way. She has to.

(also yes, I used the author’s name…)

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray

a thousand pieces of you cover

Two worlds. Five hundred pieces in each.

After Ragnarok, the Norse Apocalypse, everyone’s picking up the pieces. Celia Segment has only one hope of getting her sister back: she has to collect her. A thousand pieces. The sound of her laugh. The dimple in her left cheek. The bounce in her walk.

But to do that she has to remember. And Celia isn’t sure she wants to.

A Room Full of Chocolate by Jane Elson

a room full of chocolate

There are tales. Whispers. They are always accompanied by licking the lips. A room full of chocolate, they say. Never-ending. The most delicious chocolate you could ever eat.

And fifth-grader Kathy Cocoa wants to find it.

The best thing? The chocolate room isn’t even close to the most amazing room in the House of Curiosities. It’s also much, much better than the worst room…

But the good comes with the bad, as they say, and Kathy Cocoa will encounter quite a lot of both.

An Abundance of Katherines by John Green

an abundance of katherines

An experiment gone wrong: a senior science project in cloning, but Katherine only meant to make one copy of herself. Now there are five, and they’re getting her into all sorts of trouble. Everyone around her thinks she’s a criminal, a mad woman or an idiot (she forgot to encode English into some of the genes).

It’s not like she can just kill them, though. People are already becoming suspicious about her ability to be in several places at once. What on Earth is she going to do?

The Museum of Intangible Things by Wendy Wunder

the museum of intangible things

In Neverland are many wondrous things, and if you can get rid of Peter for a while, there are marvellous places to visit. Among these are the Museum of Intangible Things.

Here you can find all sorts of things: the first smile and Essence of Elegance; cups full of kindness and waterfalls filled with wisdom. These are for looking, not touching. So when Ursula Unembodied steals the Jug of Joy, she unleashes consequences that will stretch across Neverland.

People are starting to age. The Museum is crumbling. Funnily enough, they never thought this would happen.

A Snicker of Magic by Natalie Lloyd

a snicker of magic

Snickers, guffaws, chuckles, titters, giggles cackles, laughs. The world of Mirth is full of magic, and the magic depends on happiness. It literally makes their world go round.

But what happens when you have depression, when some days it’s impossible to laugh? The councilmen of Mirth like to think they’re carefree, but those with depression pose a threat. And threats to Mirth’s happiness will not be condoned.

Natalie, though, doesn’t think this is fair. She’d love a good snicker more than anyone, but ignoring sadness isn’t the answer. Armed with ice cream and a helping of determination, she’s going to help Mirth get its mirth back.

So some of these are absolutely ridiculous

Some are actually more interesting. I had a lot of fun coming up with ALL of these. With the exception of An Abundance of Katherines and Butter, I haven’t actually read any of these, so it was easier to come up with possible plots for them. What do you think? Should I do a part two?

I also encourage you to make your own versions – you will not believe how entertaining it is!

  1. OMG I think I am in love with this post. These were hilarious, and I bet they were even better than the actual blurbs in most cases!! Definitely please please please do a part two! 🙂

  2. THESE ARE AMAZING AND THE BEST THING OF EVER. I actually wish Love Letters to the Dead had been like that….and also I want to read your version of A Room Full of Chocolate and An Abundance of Katherines. Actually…Katherins might have been awesome if it had been about cloning instead of maths. Who knows? XD Anyway, I’m still snickering here. Best post I’ve read this week, honest!!!

  3. HAHAHA! This post was hilarious! Seriously! I kept on laughing and laughing, especially when I to the Abundance of Katherine part. You need to do more of this, my friend. You have a serious knack for humor and I’d be the first one to read it the next time! Oh, oh, do the Hunger Games or the Harry Potter ones XD I would love to know what honest blurbs you’ll think for those!

  4. Oh bloody hell, I can’t stop laughing. Butter, that is the funniest thing I’ve seen in ages!
I actually had to go and check Goodreads to see what the original blurb was, you had me at Michael Margarine and USB sticks. This is absolutely brilliant *runs off to share post with anyone who’ll listen*

  5. I love your version of ‘A Thousand Pieces of You’ – that’s a story I would read! You’ve ruined the ‘real’ version for me now, because it can never be as cool as the blurb you provided. *sigh* Great idea for a post, and not something I’ve ever tried before. 🙂

  6. These are all awesome! Sometimes when somebody mentions a book I’ve never heard of before, I automatically start thinking up theories as to what it could possibly be about. It’s definitely a fun concept, and so much fun to see what you came up with 🙂

  7. Haha oh Emily you are so creative, I just loved the Butter one, hilarious! I also loved the one you came up with for Katherines, that’s a book I’d love to read. A Thousand Pieces of You sounds absolutely amazing too!

  8. Bwahahaha! his is a great post! The most interesting ones to read would probably be A Room Full of Chocolate, An Abundance of Katherines and The Museum of Intangible Things. This could be a great exercise to come up with ideas for novels. The only thing is that some elements would have to be renamed, such as The Museum of Intangible Things. I haven’t read anything on this list, but I have a copy of A Snicker of Magic at home on top of my TBR stack. I’ll read it soon if I don’t get too many library books that catch my interest.

    • Ooooh, I’m glad you mentioned A Room Full of Chocolate and The Museum of Intangible Things – I quite liked those ideas myself. And you’re right, it COULD be a way to come up with novel ideas – it’s certainly something that gets you thinking outside the box! Names could be easily changed 🙂 oooh, I hope you like A Snicker of Magic, the actual story sounds awesome 🙂

  9. Oh my gawd this is awesome. Awesome, awesome, awesome post, had be laughing. 🙂 I especially loved the An Abundance of Katherines one. I would totally read a story like that. It would actually be pretty cool. xD You’ll do this again, right?? *shakes fist threateningly*

    • Yay, thanks Kara! Haha, I had to do something with Katherines – that title is just DYING to be re-assigned to a different idea. Plus, reading about clones is cool. Someone should write it for me.

*cowers* Yes, almighty Kara, I will write a part two 🙂

  10. You’re hilarious, Emily! xD

I don’t normally make up my own blurb, so this was such a great post to read. I’ll definitely start using my imagination more now. 😉

Butter: Bahaha! That would make an awesome story and I would so pick it up for the sake of it.
A Thousand Pieces of You: Holy crap, Emily. TURN THIS BLURB INTO A REAL BOOK AND THEN SEND IT OVER!

Yes do a part two! I loved this! ❤

    • I know. *shrugs modestly*

Okay, maybe not. Oooh, it’d be cool if you did your own version. I’d love to see what other wacky imaginations can come up with. Butter was fun to think up, haha, and A Thousand Pieces of You occurred to me when I first read the title. If I ever have the time, I WILL WRITE IT 🙂

I think I will be doing a part two!

  11. hahahahaha this is the best!!! I would definitely read Love Letters to the Dead if it was about your blurb! Oh, and A Thousand Pieces of You as well 🙂

  12. hahaha this is great! Love the one for An Abundance of Katherines! What a nightmare, having 5 copies of yourself running around haha. I would actually read that book, no joke. And wow, the blurb for A Thousand Pieces of You- would DEFINITELY read that book; it sounds amazing 😀

    • Oh, it WOULD be, wouldn’t it? So many things to explain. I have no idea how you would explain the science, though…as for A Thousand Pieces of You, it was probably the one I liked most when I was writing them. Now I feel like writing a novel on it, haha.

      …in a few decades 😛

  13. Lol, I’m laughing 😛 An Abundance of Katherines sounds perfect, I actually thought that exact thing when I first saw the title… and BUTTER, I’ll have to look into that… Once I stop laughing, that is 😛 😀

  14. These are so wonderful, Emily! You should write all those books yourself. You have quiet the imagination. A thousand Pieces Of You sounds like a must read.
